Things to Bring

  • A backpack or bag; large enough for lunchbox, drink bottle, clothing, nappies etc.
  • At least two changes of clothes.
  • Nappies (if required) at least three to four nappies.
  • Toilet training children need at least 4-5 complete changes of clothing and footwear.
  • Overalls and dungarees are not suitable for toilet training children.

Programme involves some wet and messy play so we recommend you send your child in suitable old or play clothes.

In WINTER a jacket, warm hat and gumboots are recommended to keep your child warm and dry at all times.

In SUMMER a hat with neck protection and sun block is required for all children for outdoor play. If your child participating in the swimming they will also need a named plastic bag with their swimming costume and towel also named.

We have a sun safe policy in place during the summer months, which requires all children when playing outside to be wearing a sunhat and sun block. We

supply sun block for an annual fee of $3. Please purchase hats with peaks and back flaps for full protection. Hats are to be left at the Centre. Baseball caps do not provide enough protection for the ears and neck. Please ensure caps do not have cords attached as they present a choking hazard. Your supervisor will advise whether the hats remain at the centre or are taken home each day.

ALL ITEMS MUST BE CLEARLY NAMED WITH CHILD'S FULL NAME

THINGS FROM HOME

We recommend that you encouraging children NOT to bring toys from home as personal toys are easily lost or mislaid or claimed by other children, and it is not staff responsibility to repair, replace or look for these toys. If a new child is adjusting to the centre and is bringing in a toy or comforter, that is fine, but we ask you as parents to help the child understand that it is not wise to bring valuable or special things that they might not wish to share with other children.

STRICTLY NO WAR, GUN, OR ACTION HEROES

Sickness

Due to the risk of infection we are unable to have in the attendance your sick child. Your child should be kept at home, if they have a high temperature, an unidentified rash, infections of throat or eyes, coloured nasal discharge or if they have vomiting and diarrhoea. Your child must be clear of diarrhoea and vomiting for 48 hours to be able to return to the centre. Staff are also required to abide by this, so we can maintain a healthy environment for the children.

If your child becomes ill during their time in the centre, you will be contacted immediately and asked to come and collect your child.

In the event of your child having an accident, they will be attended to immediately by a (PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID) qualified member of staff, and then by whatever is in the child's best interest. All medical costs incurred are the responsibility of the parent. You will be contacted immediately, if the child needs to be taken from the centre for further aide.

It will also be necessary for you to produce his/her Immunisation Certificate for us to view.

We have a healthy food policy. So please NO sweets, lollies, gum, roll ups, yonks or fizzy drinks.

The children are provided with nutritious meals that are prepared onsite by our cook following a 2 week menu that was written by a paediatric nutritionist.

A copy of the full menu is displayed in the Tui room and the daily meal is written up on the whiteboard in Fantail room.

If your child has any food allergies or special dietary requirements, please advise the supervisor and write it in the Health Section of the enrolment form.

Drinks

All children are required to bring a NAMED AND RECOGNISABLE bottle of drink that will last them for the time they are in attendance. Filtered water is available for those without, and any child requiring extra liquid. A sticker that the child recognises is a good way of helping a child to find their own drink bottle.

Bottles

For babies in the Fantail room, bottles must be made before hand and placed in the blue container on the kitchen bench each morning. Collect empty bottles at the end of each day.

Please remember to name all items.

Settling and Parting

All staff are aware that this is a difficult time for the parents and child and they will assist you.

We encourage you to visit the centre with your child before you leave him/her for the first time, and get to meet and play with the other children and staff. This allows the child time to explore this new environment with you.

When it is time for you to go, we recommend a hug and kiss, and words of "I am going now, you have a great morning and "I'll be back at lunchtime" etc to pick you up". NEVER SNEAK AWAY FROM YOUR CHILD, EVEN IF YOUR CHILD IS UPSET, ALWAYS SAY GOODBYE. If your child is upset at parting, a quick goodbye and then a cuddle from a staff member, who can then help your child settle is best.

You are most welcome to phone us later to reassure yourself that your child has settled.
